Tips and tricks on computer viruses.

Here I'm going to tell you something with my experiences on computer viruses. I'm sure you can get so many things from this article.

If you come across any faults in this document please let me know. Also let me know what you know and if you have any documents related to this please send them to me. I'll surely publish them on this site with your names after I come to a decision that they are good.  (snjy44@yahoo.com)

Get protected from the virus Open(0)

The real name or the name which this virus is called may be not ' Open(0) '. However most of the people who come across this virus knows this as Open(0). This must be a Trojan. However this is widely spread via Pen Drives which are used for data traveling. If one pen drive is affected from this virus it will spread the virus in each and every computer in just the moment it is connected. The main symptom of this virus is that when you double click on the drive to open it it will open in a separate window not in the same window.

When the pen drive is searched for viruses using a virus scanner it will shows that there is a Trojan in the drive and it has been deleted. But if you tried to format the drive windows doesn't let you do so saying that it is being used by a program. That's all for that moment. But the next war starts when you restart the system again.

You will feel that Windows is running slowly than in other days. When you tried to open a partition it will take some time to open it. And also in the same way described above it will be opened in a separate window. If you right click on a partition you'll see Open(0) instead of the word you normally see, Open.

This will slows down your computer very much. Also this virus tries to make special folders and you'll fell that you lose your disk space day by day. One of my friends told me that he saw several gigabytes have been lost in a computer.

How to Get Protected?

The thing is that almost all the virus scanners doesn't recognize this as a harmful program. No one may thing of a solution except formatting the hard drive.

But think a while. There is another solution.

Do System Restore. I have got very good results by doing this. Before I said this to my friends they haven't found any solution for this.

If you do not know much about this read the following. Else try restoring your system.

This is what Windows Help say about system restore.

System Restore overview

System Restore is a component of Windows XP Professional that you can use to restore your computer to a previous state, if a problem occurs, without losing your personal data files (such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or e-mail). System Restore monitors changes to the system and some application files, and it automatically creates easily identified restore points. These restore points allow you to revert the system to a previous time. They are created daily and at the time of significant system events (such as when an application or driver is installed). You can also create and name your own restore points at any time.

Notes

bullet

Restoring your computer does not affect or change your personal data files. For information about backing up personal data files, see Backing up files and folders.

For an overview of the other recovery technologies provided with Windows XP, see Recovering Your System.

For more information about System Restore, see Understanding System Restore.

Then you'll get the following wizard. Restore your system to a former day which you didn't have the virus.

Note:

You may lose some data which you copied/saved to the hard drive after that day.

You may be able to go ahead in the process with the wizard.

Try this for your other problems too. I'd like to have your comments.

Note:

Try the new version of AVG Antivirus free version too.

Use the above email address for comments and problems.

Good Luck.
